Cam Trader The No 1 Photography Classifieds Website

The Cam Trader dedicated classified website was devised after I was searching for a used Lens for my new camera. After exhausting the auction sites and other classified sites I was then left with the daunting task of trawling through all the independent shop and dealer websites searching them individually for a specific item. Luckily the lens was found after many hours over a few days searching !

“Surely, there must be a dedicated new and second hand camera equipment website where everybody can put all their items on”

“It works for cars, and camera stuff is very specialized.” After searching for such a website and drawing a blank, the idea was born.

 
John Jones was the first person I discussed the idea with as John had been involved with various websites in the past. John was also shocked that there was no such website and after research and many conversations the Cam-Trader.com domain name was bought ! We then designed Cam-Trader.
 

When designing the website we made sure that it was very easy to use for sellers and buyers, with no computer jargon cluttering up the place unlike most sites. Above all the designing issues, we set out to make it more than affordable, ensuring Camera Shops, Dealers and individuals all use Cam-Trader.com to advertise everything from top of the range Digital SLR’s to single lens filters. Making the website a one stop shop for everybody to find the next addition for their Camera bag or even the bag itself !  We feel we succeeded in making a user friendly and cost effective site that will benefit everybody. 
 

Why use Cam-Trader.com ?
 

Unlike a general auction site or a general classified site Cam-Trader.com is a dedicated website which only advertises new and used camera equipment. So as more and more people use Cam-Trader.com it will get known even more so to be the place to buy and sell cameras, lenses, filters, flashguns and more, everything to do with the photographic world. The cost of advertising your items on Cam-Trader.com is extremely low compared to other internet selling sites. This was done for a specific reason. The cost of a 30 day advert for an item valued at less than £89 is only 19p ! and with no final fees (also done for a specific reason). The reason is because it costs so little to place an advert, everybody should use Cam-Trader.com to sell their new and used camera equipment and therefore become the best place to find exactly what you are looking for. 30 days was the time that was decided on to help push our word friendly www. URL system up into the top rankings of the most used and popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Lycos and all the others and 7-10 days is hardly ever long enough. Registering and Advertising on Cam-Trader.com
This couldn’t be easier. You have to be registered with Cam-Trader to advertise but this is a very simple process. Click the Place ads button or the Register button which are located on the home page. Then click the Create an account link, this will take you to a screen where you have 4 boxes to fill in. Fill in the 4 sections and then copy the security code and click the create your account button. You then receive an email with your user name details. Click the link to verify the account and that’s it ! You are now ready to place an advert. Click on the place ad button on the home page which will take you to the same screen where you clicked the create an account link. Log in by typing your user name and password and then click the button. This takes you to your account where you can see you current adverts (when you have some to show) edit, remove and place more adverts. Click the place an ad link. You then have to choose the category you want to place the advert into. Use the drop down box to pick the category that best suits your item, you can choose in the camera section from Digital SLR (DSLR), Compact, Film SLR, Vintage, Other, then click the button. You get a chance to put the make and model in later like new or Used Nikon, new or used Sony, new or used Canon, new or used Panasonic etc. In the camcorder secttion you have Digital, HD, Tape, Other. In the lens section you have zoom, wide angle, telephoto, macro, tele-converters and other again you get to use the makes like Used Pentax, Used Nikon, Used Sigma, Used Tamron, Used Canon etc later. In the lighting category you have Flashguns, Backgrounds, Reflectors and other. The accessories category has Tripods, memory cards, batteries, new and used filters, new and used bags and cases.

Then choose the price banding you want to place the advert into. Be competitive and price aware when you are advertising.  Some of the most popular searches for a used camera are used cameras, used Nikon camera, used digital cameras, used canon cameras which means that there are lots of people looking for used camera equipment second hand stuff, so make sure your items are priced right. To make sure YOUR used camera for sale is in the listing before someone else’s camera for sale. Research is key to ensure when someone does a search to buy used cameras your listing stands out with price and specification. Second hand cameras for sale around the world are plenty !

The price bandings are any item under £89.00
Items between £89.01 and £189.00
Items between £189.00 and £389.00
And items over £389.01.

These four bandings enable people searching for a used Nikon camera or Pentax cameras can do so in a price band. Once you have decided what banding to place your item or used slr digital camera into click the banding and click the next button. You are then given the description page, where you load photos, write the description of the item, the title etc.
 

Tip
When writing the description use make, full model numbers  as all those words will be picked up by the search engines ensuring anyone searching in an engine that your item is in the results.  i.e Nikon D60 Digital SLR with Nikon 28-55mm VR lens The search engines (Google etc) will pick up Nikon D60 SLR Digital and place a listing when someone searches for a Nikon
D60 used Digital SLR etc..
 

Make sure the pictures you use are a true representation of the used Olympus camera or the canon used camera you are selling. Once you have completed filling in the descriptions and uploading the photos, there are some options which will help your advert stand out. When you add these features it will change the cost of the advert at the bottom of the page. If you have a current promotional code enter it BEFORE you click the ‘place this ad’ button. It will then calculate the discount when you go to the payment page. Once you have adverts live on the system you may edit, remove and suspend them buy clicking into the ‘My Account’ button on the home page or inside the site on all other pages. You are then (if you are logged) in taken to your account page. The ‘edit’ option on the right takes you to an edit screen, ‘suspend’ stops your advert being shown and ‘delete’ removes the advert for good.
 

Searching on Cam-Trader pages
 

Click on the search ads button or use the drop down menus to get to the adverts. If the drop down menus are clicked it will take you the category page where you click the category you want to search in. The listings in the results page are everything in that category. Clicking the search ads button will take you to the search page. This will allow you to search for specific items, models makes etc

.
If you type in Nikon d3000 for example it will then search the items title and the description for the words  ‘Nikon’ ‘d3000’ if you typed used canon it will pick up everything with the word ‘used canon’ in it. If you type digital slr it may not find anything, as not many people will list their item under those headings. Used model numbers and makes to fin what you are looking for. The search engine on the site will search the title and the description for what you are looking for. Once the search engine has found the items it will show them in alphabetical order.Nikon D80 will come before Nikon d90.  You can change the order of the listings displayed by clicking the blue arrows up and down. Opening the ad will show you how many times someone has seen the item for sale and will give you some options. You can ask the seller a question about the used digital cameras they are selling via email. Adding the ad for used slr camera to your favourites will save it so you can look at it again on your ‘my account’ page.

Printing the ad will print the item for sale. Sending the cameras for sale adverts to a friend will open an email screen where you
insert the person who you want to send it to. Reporting the item to admin will highlight that someone who is trying to sell used cameras may be doing it incorrectly.

Back to listings takes you back to the list of results you got when you did your original search. If the search brought up used cameras for sale and you are on item 6 on the page, it will take you back the item 6 position.
 

Search for other items will enable you for example if you have found a used 35mm camera for sale and you want to buy used cameras then clicking the search other items link will enable you to search for other items to compliment the used digital slr camera you have found. Perhaps a used lens, or a used flashgun, maybe a second hand cameras or second user cameras for sale then Cam-Trader is the website for you.
Clicking the picture will enlarge it and you can then scroll through the uploaded pictures by clicking the thumbnails.
